Serena Williams, one of the greatest athletes of all time, is on the final spree of her career as she will play her last match in front of her home crowd in New York where she won her first singles major title in the year 1999. Since then, she went on to win as many as 73 career titles. She became the first player to win 23 singles Grand Slam titles in the Open era.
She had made her comeback to the Wimbledon Championship after a hiatus of twelve months but her grasscourt season ended soon with her first-round exit losing to France’s Harmony Tan. The American did manage to cruise her way into the second round at Canadian Open but lost to Belinda Bencic in straight sets. She suffered another setback at the Cincinnati Open losing to the young Brit player Emma Raducanu and she looking to make the most of the tournament before she heads into the final segment of her glorious career of more than two decades.
Throwback to the times when Serena Williams denied being friends with Meghan Markle
Serena Williams‘s friendship between her and Meghan Markle, who is the Duchess of Sussex has been under the radar and is the talk of the town. Williams and Markle were supposedly very good friends which started from their meeting at a Super Bowl party in 2010 where they both enjoyed the camaraderie and bonded very well. Meghan had even at times came out in support of Serena Williams by attending her matches and taking advice from the former World number one regarding various issues.
In a book adapted on Serena Williams named ‘Serena: A Graphic Biography of the Greatest Tennis Champion‘, author Mark Hodgkinson revealed about the advice Serena had given to the former Royal family member. The statement was “You’ve got to be who you are, Meghan. You can’t hide,“.This statement was a shocker since they happened to be good friends but according to the latest development, Williams has denied her relationship with Meghan Markle and revealed Meghan merely just being an acquaintance of hers.
