Hollywood celebrities Zendaya and Tom Holland reached the Indian Wells Tennis Garden to witness the high-intensity final between Iga Swiatek and Maria Sakkari in the 2024 BNP Paribas Open. WTA posted a video of the famous Hollywood couple entering the stadium and they were even spotted in the stands. Needless to say, they were both immaculately dressed.
Zendaya’s upcoming movie, ‘Challengers’, is set to be released globally on April 26, 2024, and she went to spectate the Indian Wells final accompanied by her boyfriend in an attempt to promote her movie as it is centred around tennis. The story revolves around a tennis player turned coach (Zendaya), who transforms her husband from a mediocre player to a Grand Slam champion and the things that take place after that.
Talking about the match in concern, Iga Swiatek ended up defeating Maria Sakkari pretty convincingly. She beat the Greek 6-4, 6-0 in two sets and maintained her record of not losing a single set in the 2024 Indian Wells till the very end of the tournament. This highlights the sheer dominance that she had throughout this tournament.
Swiatek has been in great form lately. She won the 2024 Qatar Open by beating Elena Rybakina in the final. Even in that tournament, she did not lose a single set in any of the rounds. She also reached the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championship, where she lost to Anna Kalinskaya. Her only poor performance of the season so far came in the 2024 Australian Open where she lost to Linda Noskova in the third round.
Iga Swiatek praises Maria Sakkari after winning the Indian Wells 2024 Final
This is the second time that Iga Swiatek has won the Indian Wells title. She first won it back in 2022 and coincidentally, she had faced the same Maria Sakkari in the final two years ago. Moreover, the result of that match was also very similar, as it ended in a 6-4, 6-1 straight-set victory for the Pole. After winning the 2024 title, Swiatek was full of praise for the Greek.
Iga Swiatek said at the post-match interview:
It’s amazing to stand here again. Congrats to Maria. You’re one of these players who’s always fighting and going through ups and downs. But for me more important is how you are off the court. You’re truly one of the kindest people in the locker room.Iga Swiatek said
The World No. 1 added:
You can feel that you’re honestly a good person...thanks for making the locker room a nicer place. Also congrats to your team. I hope you achieve great things together.Iga Swiatek added
Now that Swiatek has won the Indian Wells title, she has once again widened the gap between her and Aryna Sabalenka, who is second on the WTA rankings. She will now shift her focus to the 2024 Miami Open, which starts in a few days.
