The Belarusian star Aryna Sabalenka is at top of the world. She capped her indefatigable performance in Australia exactly the way she had hoped. In the action-packed final of the 2023 Australian Open, Sabalenka emerged victorious over her Kazakh opponent Elena Rybakina, earning her first Grand Slam title. 

The title win is definitely a boost for her. Now, Sabalenka has come out of the shadows. On her path to the maiden Major win, she faced a lot of challenges, some on the court and some totally beyond her control. In the end, she defied all the odds and the victory swelled her confidence instantly.

In the post-match press conference, she joked about how the Australian Open title will change how she feels about herself.

“I always had this weird feeling that when people would come to me & ask for a signature, I would be like, Why are you asking for a signature? I’m nobody. I don’t have a Grand Slam and all this stuff. I just changed how I feel. Like, I start to respect myself more,” Sabalenka said.

Self-belief was the key to Aryna Sabalenka’s success in Australia

Before the Australian Open, the 24-year-old made a lot of improvements to ger game. Both physically and mentally, she worked hard to become the champion she is now. In the post-match conversation, she revealed that it was the self-belief that made all the difference in the end. 

I start to understand that actually I’m here because I work so hard and I’m actually a good player,” Sabalenka expressed. “Every time I had a tough moment on the court, I was just reminding myself that I’m good enough to handle all this just everything,” she continued. 

Sabalenka ascended to 2nd place in the WTA rankings after her exploits Down under this season. This remains undefeated in the 2023 season. As the season progresses Sabalenka is ready to make an indelible mark on the tour.
