Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis earlier claimed their first-ever Grand Slam title as the pair defeated compatriots Max Purcell and Matthew Ebden in the finals of the 2022 Australian Open. The ‘K&K’ became the first wildcard pair to win the Australian Open Men’s Doubles as they won the match 7-5, 6-4 in 1 hour and 35 minutes in front of the packed Rod Laver Arena that was roaring throughout as it was an all-Australian final.

During the course of the match, Kyrgios and Thanasi had 6 aces, 17 winners in a disciplined performance having 1 unforced error and 1 double fault as they won 75 points in the finals. Max and Matthew from the other side of the court had 3 aces, 28 winners, and had 1 double fault, and 7 unforced errors during the match as they finished with 62 points.

The first homegrown Aussie pairing to win the Australian Open men’s doubles since 1997, Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis, have been honored by the WWE. The Special Ks are on the radar of the WWE affirming their rise as two of the sport’s most compelling characters. Kyrgios and Kokkinakis were handed specially made WWE title belts with custom side-plates emblazoned with the ‘Special Ks’.

A press release from the WWE reads: “The first all-Australian duo to win the home slam since 1997 can now celebrate in style! Tennis stars Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis won the 2022 Australian Open men’s double title this past January, and they now have the WWE Championship hardware to back it up.”

“Dubbed “The Special Ks,” the childhood friends turned Grand Slam winners recently received their awesome custom WWE titles to commemorate their historic win just in time for WrestleMania 38!

The Special Ks will take on the pairing of American John Isner and Pole Hubert Hurkacz in the semi-finals of the Miami Open Men’s Doubles during the Thursday afternoon program.
