All eyes around the world are currently on 20-time grand slam champion Novak Djokovic. He has been the talk of the town ever since he landed in Melbourne 10 days back. Djokovic was travelling in Australia on medical exemptions has he is yet to get vaccinated. Tennis Australia had earlier made it mandatory for players to get vaccinated in order to compete in the 2022 Australian Open.

But as soon as Djokovic landed in Melbourne, he was detained on the airport and his visa was cancelled. The Serb waited for a few days to appeal in the judicial court and eventually won the case on Monday and got his visa instated. The main reason behing his medical exemption is believed to be his positive PCR report dating December 16.

But Djokovic attended a public event a couple of days later and even posed in the interview without a mask. Djokovic clarified in his statement that he didn’t know until the day of interview that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and claimed that he was asymptomatic.

The publication to which he gave the interview, L’Équipe has now released new information about the interview. They claim that the interview went for about 33 minutes and Djokovic had beforehand informed them to not ask questions about his vaccination status and Australian Open participation because he considered them to be ‘sensitive subjects.’

“We came to the interview. The instructions were clear: no questions about vaccinations and the Serb’s intentions to compete in the Australian Open. Very sensitive subjects. We didn’t ask if he thought of getting tested before the interview. And if so, what the result was,” the journalist said.

Interestingly, Djokovic even agreed to pose for photos without a mask for a brief moment at the request of photographer Etienne Garnier.

Djokovic still doubtful for Australian Open

Djokovic is cleared by the judicial court to stay and compete in the Australian Open. Since the last 3 days, he has trained on the Rod Laver Arena with his team and is gearing up for the megaevent. He is even seeded No.1 for the first major of the year and is set to lead the playing field.

However, a final decision on Djokovic’s visa will be made tomorrow. It is believed that the Serbian champion might have forged his PCR test and lied to the Australian authorities. If found guilty, Djokovic could even face prison time.
