Rafael Nadal is well and truly back, as he claimed his 89th career title on Sunday. The Spaniard defeated the American, Maxime Cressy in straight sets in the finals of ATP Melbourne. This was Nadal’s first title since winning the Italian Open in 2021.

Now, Rafael Nadal has created another record after claiming yet another title on hard courts. The 35-year-old becomes the first player to have won atleast one ATP title for each of the last 19 years. Rafael Nadal announced himself on the big stage in 2004, and since then, he has won a title every year.

With 20 Grandslam titles to his name, and now a 89th ATP title, Rafael Nadal has achieved almost everything there is in the tennis. However, the hunger and passion with which he approaches every single game, just shows as to how committed he is to the sport.

Roger Federer has won an ATP title in 15 consecutive years, a streak which ended in 2015. The Swiss suffered an injury in 2016, which kept him out of action for vast parts of the season.

Novak Djokovic has also won atleast one title in the last 16 years, which is still intact. The Serbian has dethroned his two rivals, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in the last decade. After winning 16 majors in the last decade, Djokovic has drawn level with the other two Big Three members in terms of the number of majors won.

Rafael Nadal will now compete at the Australian Open 2022. The Spaniard will have a week’s time to recover and prepare for the first slam of the year. The veteran has just won one Australian Open title so far, but has ended as the runner-up on four separate occasions in 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2019.
