Novak Djokovic is coming into the French Open with some good practice and a trophy win under his belt. Last week he beat Alex Molcan in the Finals of the Belgrade 2 to win his first trophy on clay this year.
A comprehensive straight sets win for the World No.1. The win will give Djokovic confidence ahead of the French Open but he will also know that the level of competition at Paris will be on another level.

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have been drawn in the same half at this year’s French Open, which means there is a potential chance of them meeting in the Semi-finals of the Grand Slam. Speaking on that Novak Djokovic said, “I know there’s a build-up potentially for that match-up in the semi-final, but there are many obstacles to overcome before that.” Djokovic continued, “ If we get there, of course, I know what is expected of me and what I need to do. Last year, I had a great run at Roland Garros, but he played fantastic tennis in the final and I couldn’t do much.”
Last year’s French open final defeat did hurt Djokovic, who said that he was optimistic that he would be able to play Rafa again In Paris again, and this time he vowed to play at a higher level. Novak Djokovic said, “ Hopefully, if I get a chance to play him again in Paris, the level of my tennis will be different.”

Novak Djokovic spoke about the Final of the Italian Open against Rafael Nadal last month. He said that he drew a lot of confidence from that match. Although Djokovic lost that match against Nadal 5-7 6-1 3-6, he was particularly good in the second set and it looked like he would take the match away. But Nadal in his typical fashion came back to win the third set and win the match.
Speaking of the Italian Open final, Novak Djokovic said, “ We pushed each other to the limits in Rome a few weeks ago, staying in touch until the last point.” He concluded, “That match gives me good feelings ahead of our potential clash here in Paris. Still, we both have to stay focused only on our next match.” Novak Djokovic will start his French Open campaign against American Tennys Sandgren.
