“I know in my heart I gave it everything to fight for a medal” Novak Djokovic pens down a Thank You message after his exit from the Tokyo Olympics 2020

World No. 1 and 20-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic took to his Twitter handle to thank everyone involved in the smooth conduct of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The Serbian was the favourite for the Gold medal in Men’s Singles and with his surprise participation in the Mixed Doubles was becoming a favourite there as well.
But one bad day ruined everything for the Nole who was defeated in the semi-finals twice on the same day in both the Singles and Mixed Doubles category. Things got worse for Novak when he lost the Bronze Medal match in the Singles and eventually pulled out from the Mixed Doubles due to a shoulder injury that he had picked up before coming to the Olympics but chose to represent Serbia nonetheless.
Novak went from a shot at Double Gold to returning empty-handed from the mega-sports event. Novak was however gracious in his defeat and despite missing out on the chance to script his name in the history with the Singles Gold, the Serbian put out a thank you message for the organisers and the fans.
“It was a true privilege to represent Serbia at the Olympics. Thank you Tokyo 2020 and everyone that helped us come together for the magic of sport. I know in my heart I gave it everything to fight for a medal, and I’m looking forward to coming back stronger at Paris 2024,” read the Serbian’s tweet who dropped a massive hint about the upcoming Olympics in Paris.
Novak Djokovic to chase history at the upcoming 2021 US Open

Having teased the fans with possible Olympics participation for the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Serbian will now shift his focus to the remainder of the season to be played on the Hardcourts of which he has played already a week in Tokyo. On the ATP tour, the Serbian is undefeated in 9 matches on the Hardcourts while his 2 defeats and 4 wins at the Olympics take his record to 13-2 for the season on the surface.
Novak having won all 3 of the Grand Slams this year will be looking to become the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 and the first player since Steffi Graf in 1988 to win all 4 Grand Slams in the same calendar year. With history on the line, Novak will look to add another glorious chapter in his career at the 2021 US Open where he will come chasing his 21st Grand Slam title and 4th US Open title.
