Several tennis experts believe that World No.1 Novak Djokovic is the overwhelming favourite to win the 2021 US Open in a couple of weeks. The Serb who has already won the first three Grand Slams of the year has a realistic chance of completing a Calendar Slam in New York.

Speaking to a PA News Agency recently, former US Open semifinalist Tim Henman also opined that the 20-time Grand Slam champion is going to be the man to beat in New York.

“There’s no doubt that Djokovic is the clear favourite, his form in the Majors has been incredible – it speaks for itself,” explained Henman.

The Brit further marvelled at the Serb’s dominance and consistency across surface. “To play so well on hardcourts, claycourts, grasscourts, I think it really emphasises what a complete player he is.”

Considering the prize and history on the line, the 46-year-old concluded by saying that it will be interesting to see how Djokovic handles the pressure at the US Open.

“There’s no doubt as a student of the game that he’s very aware of what’s on the line. So it’ll be interesting to see how he deals with the opposition on the other side of the net but also internally, because it’s a massive opportunity. I think it’s going to make it a fascinating fortnight.”

The three-time US Open champion has landed in New York and has already began practising at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, where he will have the golden opportunity to create history.

Although Djokovic couldn’t win an Olympic medal for his country at the recently concluded Tokyo Games, he still has chance to become the only man in the Open Era to win a Calendar Grand Slam.

Interestingly, despite the 34-year-old’s hard court prowess, he has won the US Open only three times. Unfortunately, Djokovic was disqualified from the Championships last year, after he unintentionally fired the ball at an official’s throat.
