UNREAL loss for Novak Djokovic against world No.121 Jiří Veselý at the quarter-finals of the Dubai Open

Novak Djokovic lost his world No.1 ranking to Daniil Medvedev after losing his quarter-final match at the Dubai open. Djokovic was playing the Czech tennis player Jiří Veselý.

Djokovic was under the threat of losing his world No.1 title ever since the Serb wasn’t able to contest at the Australian Open 2022 due to his vaccination status. However, the heroics of Rafael Nadal in beating Medvedev in the finals prolonged the transition.

Djokovic finally lost his No.1 position after losing a game against world No.121 Jiří Veselý. Vesely managed to defeat Djokovic in straight sets. Djokovic did try and fight back but the Czech player managed to pull across a win against one of the legends of the game.

Ever since Novak Djokovic exited the Australian open without being able to contest, it was believed that the Serb will lose his world No.1 ranking to the Russian Daniil Medvedev.

In the finals of the Australian Open Medvedev was looking to win his second grand slam title and also replace Djokovic to be crowned as the world No.1. However, that dream was prolonged due to the heroics shown by Rafael Nadal who defeated Medvedev and won the Australian Open title.

However, due to Djokovic’s reservations on getting vaccinated, the Serb wasn’t getting called to many major tournaments throughout the world. He played his first tournament in 2022 in Dubai, where he lost his quarter-final match to Jiří Veselý in straight sets 4-6, 6(4)-7.

After losing the match Djokovic automatically lost his world No.1 title to Medvedev, who went on to become the 27th world No.1 in the world. Djokovic lost his world No.1 title after 361 weeks.
