Novak Djokovic stormed into the fourth round of US Open 2021, after a four set win over Japanese rival, Kei Nishikori. It was not an easy match-up for the Serbian at any costs, as he dropped the first set in the tiebreaker.
However, he stormed back into the match, after winning the next three sets and sealed a spot in the last 16 encounter. Novak Djokovic remains on-course to complete his calendar Grandslam this year, as he aims to win the title at US Open 2021.
Novak Djokovic has won all three Grandslams so far, with the last one coming at Wimbledon 2021, where he outclassed the Italian, Matteo Berrettini in the finals. The Serbian failed to complete his Career Golden Slam at Tokyo Olympics, as he finished fourth in the overall standings. However, he still has a chance to reach a historic landmark, provided he wins the title at Flushing Meadows.
Speaking in the post-match press conference, Novak Djokovic revealed the moment which gave him the greatest satisfaction of all. The Serbian had won four consecutive slams from Wimbledon 2015 to French Open 2016, which according to him was his greatest moment in tennis.
Novak Djokovic describes his French Open 2016 triumph
Novak Djokovic completed his Career Grandslam in 2016, when he claimed the French Open title, defeating Andy Murray in the finals. Interestingly, not only did he achieve this historic landmark, but the Serbian also won his fourth consecutive slam.
Novak Djokovic has always come up short against Rafael Nadal at French Open, having lost on seven occasions. In lead up to the French Open 2016 final, the Serbian had already lost in the final on three occasions. The world number one described the moment of winning at French Open 2016, as his Mount Everest moment.
“The greatest Slam satisfaction was when I won four in a row, with a crown at Roland Garros, which was like Mont Everest for me,” said Djokovic.
Novak Djokovic will clash against the American, Jenson Brooksby in the fourth round of US Open 2021 on Monday. The Serbian is slowly getting back to his best at Flushing Meadows, and remains on course to complete his calendar slam.
