Novak Djokovic ready to miss two major tournaments due to his unvaccinated status

Novak Djokovic has landed in some sort of trouble once again. There are speculations rising around the participation of the world No.1 at the Monte Carlo Masters and the Indian Wells.

Djokovic has already faced deportation due to his unvaccinated status from Australia, where he wasn’t allowed to defend his title at the Australian Open. He might face similar treatment at Indian wells in California which is following similar guidelines as Australia.

The Serb has been one of the most relentless forces in the game for the past year. He is at the top of his game and was expected to win many tournaments in 2022 just like he did in 2021. However, due to his unvaccinated status and the concern over the pandemic at an all-time high Djokovic has no option but to follow the guidelines in place or opt-out of the tournaments.

The first ATP Masters 1000 of the year is just a few months ahead of us and it seems that Novak Djokovic might face similar problems that he faced at the Australian Open at the beginning of the year. With the vaccination policies getting more and more stringent throughout the world Djokovic might not be left with any option except to get vaccinated.

The world No.1 would be looking forward to playing his first game of the year at the ATP 500 in Dubai where vaccination isn’t necessary. However, the same isn’t true for two of the most important tennis tournaments of the year i.e. Indian Wells and the Monte Carlo Masters.

Indian Wells has already made the vaccination of the players participating in the event compulsory. Similarly in France vaccine is a compulsory criterion for entering the country and visiting major attractions and venues. Although the rules might change before Monte Carlo Masters starts on April 9. The tournament director Zeljko Franulovic is certain about Djokovic’s participation, “If he meets the health requirements of the French government, we will be happy to host him,”

“He has to be in order. For the moment, as far as I know, he is not vaccinated. As soon as he is in good health with respect to government regulations, we will welcome him with open arms.” added Franulovic.
