Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal

Novak Djokovic will begin his 3rd tournament of the year, well fourth if you choose to count the unfortunate incident that marred the Australian Open 2022. Djoker’s last tournament, saw him crash out in the quarterfinals to Jiří Veselý. This year has been particularly hard for Novak and his fans considering all the controversy he was embroiled in. On top of that Nadal won a miraculous Australian Open final making his tally of grand slams one bigger than Djoker’s.

Djokovic is out for redemption. He is a champion and with all the tough times he has faced just in the year 2022, he is looking to bounce back with a win at the Madrid Masters. His path is anything but easy as he will be face to face with a resurgent Nadal, who is looking in a peach of a form this year. Other than Nadal, there are the usual suspects in the top 10 including Medvedev, Zverev, Tsitsipas and certain other young guns.

Carlos Alcaraz had established himself as a charismatic performer and recently took the Tennis world by storm when he won the Miami Open, a feat his idol Nadal did not achieve. He will undoubtedly look to exact revenge from Nadal for his loss at the Indian Wells. But more than that, he would love to get another piece of silverware in his own country, in front of his home crowd, just after his tremendous win in Miami, and cement himself as a true heir of Rafael Nadal.

Taylor Fritz, the winner of Indian Wells, Casper Ruud the runaway Norwegian Maverick, Hubert Hurkacz, and Felix Auger-Aliassime are some of the other young stars who will look for an opportunity to take down the titans. The Big three have always held off the younger generation as they had always been hungrier and determined, but the wave seems to be too powerful this time. But, Nadal and Djokovic will still make them work for it. After all, they are not done yet.

But before Madrid Masters, Djokovic has a pitstop at the Monte Carlo Masters where he seeks to start with his title-winning ways before he meets his long-time nemesis, Rafael Nadal, in Madrid. Novak Djokovic will look to get in better shape when he faces the stacked bracket of Madrid Masters and Monte Carlo should be a proper practice session, and a tournament win will certainly lift his spirits and the spirit of his fans as well.
