World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is about to make his season debut at the upcoming 2022 Dubai Championships. While it is still February, a lot has happened for the Serbian this year that could well pave his way for the remainder of the season. With a threat to his position at the top of ATP rankings as well, Djokovic will have a lot to play for when he steps in Dubai.

After the entire drama in Australia that led to him getting banned from entering the country for 3 years, being deported out of the country less than 24 hours before he was supposed to start his 2022 Australian Open campaign as the 3-time defending champion, the 9-time Australian Open champion will have a massive statement to make when he returns to tennis action for the first time since he last played at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals.

While Novak prepares for his season debut, questions are being raised on how will Novak perform after the entire episode in Australia that would have surely impacted him. While many believe it could be a difficult season for the Serbian, Darren Cahill, former coach of Simona Halep and the current temporary coach of Amanda Anisimova gave his opinion on what could be going on with the 20-time Grand Slam champion.

“I think Novak is using this situation to fuel the fire that he has always played with. He’s still looking to improve his game and I think we’ll see Nole again at an incredible level over the next two years,” said Cahill during his interview with the New York Times believing that Djokovic has certainly used the entire off-court drama to be motivated and get his revenge in the remainder of the season.

Djokovic has committed to only the Dubai Championships so far where he is a 5-time champion having won his 5th title at the tournament in 2020. He has played in 6 finals and finished runner-up only once. While this is certainly joyful news for his fans, it brings along the question of where will the player be playing next.

As per his official website, he is yet to finalise a tournament after his stint in Dubai. With the absence in Melbourne Park already a massive dent to his ranking, he is separated by World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev by just 900 points and given the Russian being in outstanding form, Djokovic can’t risk missing a lot of tournaments.
