“Novak is a pebble in their shoes!” Nikola Pilic launches scathing attack on Western media’s treatment of ‘greatest’ Novak Djokovic

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic had one of his worst trips to Australia which ended with him being banned from entering the country for 3 years. Djokovic’s refusal to get vaccinated and Australia’s policy to not allow unvaccinated players led to the entire debacle that saw the 3-time defending champion at the Australian Open not get a chance to defend his title at the 2022 Australian Open.
Pilic discusses about the Djokovic situation
Recently, Novak Djokovic dropped a bombshell of an interview in which he revealed that he’d be willing to sacrifice winning trophies and even participating at the French Open and Wimbledon in order to stand by his point of view.
Discussing the interview, former Yugoslavian legend Nikola Pilic revealed that while he commends Novak’s stand and fully supports it, he also feels sad that a man with the talent and an illustrious career like Novak Djokovic has to be in such a sticky situation. According to him, it would be a big miss to see Novak not compete at the biggest of tournaments as things stand. However, the Yugoslav also reiterated that it is ultimately Novak’s personal choice and no one should be able to interfere in it.
“Novak has the right to have his own position. I am very sorry that such a situation came about that Novak, who has such a great career, finds himself in a situation where he does not play at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Not to raise those cups again and lose the first position on the ATP list. If his position on the vaccine is so firm and if it is more important for him not to get vaccinated and miss the Grand Slams by the end of the year, then he has the right to do that,” he said.
He also went on to hail Djokovic as the greatest player of all time and accused the Western media of having an agenda against him. The former coach for the Serbian Davis Cup said that the western media do not like the Serbian and that they never gave him the kind of support that Federer and Nadal receive.
“Novak is the greatest player of all time, but the Western press can hardly wait for him not to play in the biggest tournaments in the continuation of the season. I have a lot of experience in sports and I know the West and their media very well. Novak is a pebble in their shoes and they never gave him the support they gave to Federer and Nadal,” he added.
