Rafael Nadal and Patrick McEnroe
Rafael Nadal made one of the most unbelievable comebacks at the 2022 Australian Open. The former world No.1 was down and out of the game last year when he suffered from a foot injury. He went through surgery and recovered just in time to make it to the Australian Open.
He came to the major with next to no hope about performing well at the tournament. He planned on taking it one match at a time and seeing how far he can go. Well, he went as far as he could’ve, won 7 games in a row, and won the Australian Open title for the second time in his career.
Patrick McEnroe just like everyone had ruled out Nadal after the Spaniard was down by two sets in the final against Daniil Medvedev. However, Nadal made a comeback which surprised him, his team, and even the fans.
McEnroe calls Australian Open 2022 2nd Best win in Rafael Nadal’s career
Patrick McEnroe was surprised with Nadal winning the finals of the Australian Open after being two sets down against a player like Daniil Medvedev. However, the fighter in Nadal didn’t give up and he made an unreal comeback and won the title.
McEnroe went ahead to call the Australian Open victory to be the second-best win of Rafael Nadal’s career. The former world No.1 has won 21-grand slams in his career and played some of the most extraordinary matches ever seen in tennis.
McEnroe in his tweet asked his followers which other win in Nadal’s career could top this historic Australian Open win. According to many, the win at Wimbledon in 2008 against Roger Federer who was in his prime and playing on his best surface, was the best win in Nadal’s career.
However, the 2022 Australian Open win was one of the most special ones for Nadal as it came at what could be considered as the twilight of Nadal’s career. He showed that even at an age of 35, he still has the mental and physical strength to beat the best players in the world. That is what makes him one of the greatest champions in the history of sports.
