Rafael Nadal won millions of hearts along with the Australian Open 2022 crown by defeating World No.2 Daniil Medvedev in the finals of the tournament. Needless to say, like many, his uncle and former coach Toni Nadal was very proud of his nephew for winning the 21st Grand Slam title.
Toni shared some of his opinions on Rafa’s final match. According to him, people nowadays surrender very easily and get frustrated. They lack patience and complain a lot. While Rafa, on the other hand, was under immense pressure when he lost the first two sets but there was no negative expression on his face and he knew how to tackle the situation and eventually won the title.
Talking to Movistar, Toni said, “Nowadays, people tend to surrender to frustration and complain too much. Rafa, though, being down 2 sets to zero had no bad face, nothing. He knew, all the time, how to overcome difficulty, which I think is the most outstanding thing from yesterday’s match”

Later in another interview, Toni said that he could not bear the sight of Rafa losing in the first two sets and stopped watching the match as he has a weak heart. He also recalled the matches of 2012 and 2017 where Rafa was up a break in the 5th and lost. He said: “I had vivid memories of 2012 and 2017 finals. I was afraid Rafa could lose again.”
The match between Rafa and Daniil was very interesting and every set was more exciting than the previous one. When the former lost the first two sets his fans lost all the hopes of seeing him lift the crown again but Rafa, to everyone’s surprise, staged a huge comeback and took home the Australian Open trophy after 13 years.
