World number 206, Carla Suarez Navarro is making her second appearance at the Olympic Games after participating in Rio in 2016. In Rio, she reached the third round after beating Ana Ivanovic and Ana Konjuh. Navarro reached a career-high ranking of 6 in 2016. In 2020, she announced her retirement from tennis after being diagnosed with cancer. In April 2021, she announced that her cancer was in complete remission and she will commence a farewell tour beginning at the French Open and ending in a final US Open appearance.
