After doctors revealed he had been playing with a damaged rib, Rafael Nadal will be out for several weeks. The Spaniard had a fantastic start to the new season, winning the Australian Open in January after playing 20 matches without losing. However, despite a valiant effort, he was unable to equal American Taylor Fritz in the Indian Wells Masters final due to breathing troubles.
That issue had initially surfaced in his semi-final match against fellow Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, but he was able to play despite the pain and defeat his younger opponent. However, after losing in the final, Rafael Nadal revealed more about the difficulty he had been experiencing whilst attempting to continue his unbeaten streak.

After specialists discovered the source of the problem, Rafael Nadal has acknowledged that he will be sidelined for some time. He stated that he will be missing a substantial portion of the clay-court season, in a lengthy social media statement, the surface on which he has thrived throughout his playing career.
“Hello everyone, I wanted to announce that I have returned to Spain and I immediately went to visit my medical team to do the tests after the Indian Wells final that I played with discomfort,” Rafael Nadal expressed via Twitter. “As it turns out, I have a stress crack in one of my ribs and will be out for 4-6 weeks.”
“This is not good news and I did not expect this. I am hollow and sad because after the start of the season I have had such a good time. I reached a very important part of the year with very good feelings and good results. But hey, I’ve always had that fighting spirit and what I will do is be patient and work hard after my recovery. Once again I thank everyone for the support,” the 21-time Grand Slam champion added.
