The Australian Open 2022 will be the first Grand Slam of the 2022 season that is scheduled in the second half of January. The Grand Slam is set to begin from 17th January with the Women’s Finals on 30th January while the Men’s Finals is scheduled on 31st January that will conclude the tournament.
Due to the pandemic, the prize money of various tournaments including the Grand Slams were affected and the tournaments had to take a cut in prize money in order to cope with other finances. Keeping in mind the lower-ranked players who often get eliminated in the early rounds, many tournaments decided to increase the prize money in the early rounds and deduct money in the later rounds.
The Australian Open 2021 had total prize money of $71.5 million (AUD). The tournament will see a rise in this year’s prize with a total financial commitment of $75 million (AUD) for the Australian Open 2022, a slight increase of 4.5% when compared with the 2021 edition.
Breakdown of round-wise money for Australian Open 2022
Both the men’s and women’s winners will be having the same prize money at the Australian Open 2022, in contrast to the Tour level tournaments. Following the trend of last year, for the first 4 rounds of matches, there has been a good increase in the prize money as compared to the increase in prize for the last 3 rounds of the Slam.

With $54 million (USD) committed to the ‘Happy Slam‘, it also hints towards an increase in prize money for other tournaments as well including the Slams. With the entry list announced just a few days ago, wildcard entrants and the draws will also be announced shortly with the tournament now a month away.
