The 2023 ATP Shanghai Masters is set to commence in Shanghai, China from 4th October. Notable players like Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Jannik Sinner will be seen fighting for the coveted trophy. The tournament will be taking place after 3 years of gap, which took place due to Covid-19. Daniil Medvedev will be the defending champion this time and probably the crowd favorite as well.

The event is the newest addition to the Asian Tour and was initiated in 2009 with the objective of increasing the tennis market in China and Asia. The tournament has seen 11 successful editions and will embark on its 12th.

The 2018 champion, Novak Djokovic, will not be playing the match as he will be taking a break after the ongoing China Open. The other top 20 players will be seen participating.

The top two seeds this year in Shanghai are Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev. The Spaniard will be making his debut at the master’s event and will be aiming to dethrone Djokovic from the pinnacle of the ATP ranking. Medvedev, on the other hand, holds the record for the most number of wins on the hard courts this season and has also defeated Alcaraz in the semifinal of the 2023 US Open. It will be interesting to see both players play.

The total prize money for the event is set at $8,800,000, which is an increase of 17.75% from the 2019 edition. This rise is primarily due to Shanghai following the trend of Masters 1000 events, increasing their draw size to 96 players.
