Emma Raducanu vs Ana Bogdan: Preview
British teenager Emma Raducanu suddenly became the sensation on the WTA tour after her incredible victory at the 2021 US Open. Not only did Raducanu create history in many ways, but she is also billed as the next big thing in women’s tennis. However, there was a stutter for the Canadian-born girl as she got ousted in the opening round of the recently concluded BNP Paribas Open.
Meanwhile, the 18-year-old did manage to overcome the threat of Polona Hercog in the three sets in the last round. Having got back to winning ways, the newly crowned US Open champ will be eager to impress fans this week in Transylvania.
On the other hand, Bogdan comes into this round after beating Ivana Jorovic in the previous round. It is interesting to note that the Russian is only playing her first tournament after losing in the first round of the 2021 US Open. Moreover, for the entire season, the 28-year-old has only grind her way by playing the qualifiers in most tournaments.
Interestingly, Bogdan is yet to go past the second round in any tournament, on the hard courts in 2021. Therefore, there is nothing to suggest that she will make a deep run this week in front of her home fans.
Emma Raducanu vs Ana Bogdan: Head to Head
These two players have never met on the WTA tour as yet.
Emma Raducanu vs Ana Bogdan: Prediction
While Raducanu will take the court as the favourite, underestimating the quality striking of Bodgan can prove to be detrimental for the Brit. Interestingly, both players like to take the ball early and dictate play. That said, the 18-year-old Raducanu has a better all-around game, coupled with deep smart returns and court coverage. Although we could see another three-setter, an upset looks very unlikely.
Match Prediction: Emma Raducanu should win in two sets.
