A 22-time Grand Slam champion, the most in the history of tennis, Rafael Nadal needs no further introduction. He is one of the greatest ever to grace the tennis courts, if not the greatest. The Spaniard’s legacy is unmatched, particularly on the clay surface, with a mind-numbing 14 Majors at the French Open, and that’s why he is called the ‘King of Clay’.
With so much greatness associated with his name, it is quite often that people get inspired by Nadal around the world and either want to be like him or want to retell his success to the younger generation.
One such person who has taken on the mantle of writing a biography of the 36-year-old is the New York Times tennis correspondent Christopher Clarey. Clarey, a 30-year veteran at the New York Times and often regarded as the dean of American tennis journalists, is quitting his job and planning to become a full-time author. On May 17th, Clarey shared this news via a series of tweets from his official Twitter handle.
Clarey, in another tweet, also gave an important update on his upcoming biography on Nadal, ‘The Warrior’.
The leading tennis journalist for over three decades has revealed that he has already started work on the biography of the marquee player, which is expected to be launched in 2024, with the renowned publication house Twelve Books publishing the book.

Christopher Clarey has formerly written a biography on Roger Federer
Clarey is not a new name in authoring books on tennis players. In fact, two years ago, in 2021, Clarey authored ‘The Master: The Long Run and Beautiful Game of Roger Federer’, a biography of 20-time Grand Slam winner Swiss Maestro Roger Federer, which became a New York Times bestseller and was translated into 19 languages.
Clarey has credited this book with giving him the inspiration to fully venture into the role of an author. With Clarey now focusing solely on being an author after leaving the New York Times job, it would be quite interesting to see who will be the next player on whom the American will write his next biography after The Warrior. Let us know in the comments which player you want the biography to be written by Clarey next.
