Rafael Nadal was in fine form when he was recently got sidelined with a rib injury. This will surely hamper his clay season and preparations for the Roland Garros. Nadal has a terrific start to the year by winning titles as it all started in Melbourne followed by the Australian Open and then he carried that form to Acapulco Masters.

The veteran Spaniard was also in great touch at the Indian Wells as he gave a tough fight before going down to Taylor Fritz in the finals. Nadal has announced that he will be out for 4-6 weeks after getting sidelined with a rib injury.

The 35-year-old wants to be very careful about all these things as he recently returned from a major foot injury earlier this year. The Spaniard gradually gained moment and after winning the Australian Open he had spring in his steps. He went on a 20 match winning streak until he suffered a defeat against Fritz at the finals of the Indian Wells.

The Spaniard has removed his name from the lineup of the Monte Carlos Masters. However, he is yet to do the same from the Barcelona Open player lineup. Therefore the tournament director and former tennis star David Ferrer feels that there might be a possibility but he is happy with the lineup anyways.

”There will surely be three ‘top 10’ (Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud, and Hubert Hurkacz) and 11 of the top 20,” Ferrer was quoted as saying by MARCA. “A final between Tsitsipas and Carlos Alcaraz would be attractive.”

The former French Open finalist shared how Nadal is an irreplaceable player but having someone like Alcaraz will surely attract the local people. He agrees that the 18-year-old sensation is a big draw for the event. Alcaraz’s current form makes him one of the most exciting talents in the Men’s circuit currently.

“Nadal is an irreplaceable player, but we have the novelty of Alcaraz, who creates a lot of expectations after how he has broken into the circuit this year. Having Rafa is something unique and the only thing I hope is that he recovers as soon as possible,” Ferrer said.

The news of a rib problem has put up Nadal’s preparation for the 22nd Grand Slam title in the clouds, especially before the French Open where he has ruled for several years. But Ferrer feels that it is always difficult to cope with the news of injuries but he feels Nadal has the strength to come out of it as soon as possible.

“It is not easy when they tell you that you have an injury and more so at the beginning of the clay. He had been playing very well and with confidence. But if there is something Rafa has, it is that he has always come out of this type of situation with more strength. Injuries are part of the sport,” Ferrer concluded.
