Carlos Alcaraz is the 3rd seed and will be playing at US Open 2022 after having a commendable run in the past 1 year. On 24th of May, 2021, the young Spaniard broke the top 100 and never looked back since then. Within a year, the 19 year old breached the top 10 rankings.

He became the first ever player to beat Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic back to back in a clay court. This happened in the Madrid masters where he had taken down the Olympic gold medalist, Alexander Zverev in the final to win the title with the score line of 6-3, 6-1.

Alcaraz had made his quarter finals debut in the French Open 2022 where he was beaten by current world number 2, Alexander Zverev in a thrilling 4 set encounter. The score line of the encounter was 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6. After playing at the French Open, the Spaniard played at the Wimbledon where he was beaten by rising star, Jannik Sinner in 4 sets. The Italian won the match with the score line of 6-1, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.

The young gun last played at the Cincinnati Open where he made it to the quarter finals but ultimately lost to 2022 Wimbledon semi finalist, Cameron Norrie in a 3 set thriller. The Brit won the encounter with the score line of 7-6, 6-7, 6-4.

The Spaniard has two characteristics in his game which helped him reach at this level. First, he plays at a very high level without dropping his level throughout an encounter and secondly, he performs well in pressure situations.

It will be interesting to see how he performs in the US Open 2022.

Tough Road Ahead For Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz is seeded 3rd in the US Open and has a tough road ahead of himself. He will play Argentine, Sebastian Beaz in the first round. In the second round, the Spaniard is most likely to clash with the talented Argentine, Federico Coria or world number 46, Tallon Griekspoor.

In the 3rd round, the young gun is most likely to set up a clash with the in form, Borna Coric or American, Jenson Brooksby. The world number 4 is likely to clash with either Former US Open Champion, Marin Cilic or the in form Brit, Dan Evans in the 4th round of the US Open 2022.

If Carlos manages to cross the hurdles, then he is most likely to play either against Italian young gun, Jannik Sinner or world number 10, Hubert Hurkacz . The potential semi final fixture for the youngster would be most likely against 22 time grand slam champion, Rafael Nadal or another in form Brit, Cameron Norrie. Alcaraz could meet either defending champion, Daniil Medvedev or in form Greek, Stefanos Tsitsipas or Wimbledon 2022 finalist, Nick Kyrgios.
