Medvedev was the champion in the most recently concluded grand slam of US Open. He had denied Novak Djokovic a rare feat of calendar slam and by defeating him in straight sets with the score line of 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. The win for Medvedev also meant that the Big 3 comprising of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are still tied at 20 grand slams each.

The shots Medvedev makes from behind the baseline is his main strength as it strengthens the defensive game.

The world number 2 was the runner up in the Australian Open last year. He was beaten by the defending champion and current world number 1, Novak Djokovic with the score line of 6-2, 7-6, 7-6. It will be interesting to see if Medvedev is able to push himself to the limits this time to lift the title as expectations from him are a bit high as compared to the last time.
