Carlos Alcaraz vs Diego Schwartzman: Preview

Carlos Alcaraz is definitely one of the best talents on the current tour. He has constantly risen up the ranks over the last 1 year and has been solid this season too. He made it to the third round of the Australian Open where he lost to Matteo Berrettini in a five-set thriller. This week in Rio, Alcaraz notched up good wins against Jaume Munar and Federico Delbonis before avenging his Australian Open loss to Berrettini in the quarterfinals. He then defeated Italian Fabio Fognini in the semifinals in straight sets 6-2,7-5.
A lot was expected of Diego Schwartzman at the start of the season but so far, he hasn’t delivered as promised. He bowed out of the second round of the Australian Open where he lost to Christopher O’Connell in straight sets. Last week at the Cordoba Open, Schwartzman made it to the semifinals but lost to Alejandro Tabilo in straight sets. He has looked good so far this week and defeated the likes of Pedro Martinez and Pablo Andujar in the initial rounds. He then got the better of Francisco Cerundolo in the semifinals in straight sets 7-6(4),6-3 to reach the final.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Diego Schwartzman: Head-to-Head

This will be the first meeting between the duo. They haven’t met before on tour and hence their H2H stands deadlock at 0-0.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Diego Schwartzman: Prediction

Schwartzman has a lot of experience of playing in tough situations and his big-match temperament will give him a slight edge. But given Alcaraz’s current form, he will fancy his chances to win the biggest title of his career. He has been very solid from the baseline and has outpowered everyone from the forehand side. Expect a thrilling match with Alcaraz winning his maiden ATP 500 title and eventually entering the Top 20 of the ATP Rankings for the first time.
Prediction: Alcaraz to win in three sets.
