‘Hello Boston!!!’ Roger Federer arrives at the 2021 Laver Cup

Roger Federer, who is one of the mind behind the Laver Cup concept, has arrived at Boston for the 2021 edition. The Swiss will not be playing this year’s tournament as he’s currently in recovery after a knee surgery but made sure that he supports Team Europe live.
The 20-time grand slam champion came up with this concept in 2017 and to his joy, the tournament was a very successful one. However, neither of Federer, Nadal or Djokovic will be playing this year’s tournament due to different reasons.
Federer landed in Boston today itself, i.e. on Day 1 and took to social media to share his excitement. He posted a photo of himself with the winner’s cup and wrote “Hello Boston!!!”
Federer then met both the teams and was seen having a good time with the players and both coaches before they stepped onto the court.
‘The first three editions have been wonderful’: Federer

Ahead of the tournament, Federer spoke about what the Laver Cup means to him and what was the idea behind creating this concept.
“To me, legacy is really important, that we remember it in tennis because we have a really rich history. Rod Laver was a hero to a lot of us, especially Bjorn Borg and to John [McEnroe]. To me, he is a big legend who was able to win the Grand Slam two times and he was also the one who went from amateur sport to professional,” Federer said.
“That is where the idea came in with Tony [Godsick] and myself once on a ride in Shanghai. That we could do something for the legacy of the game and incorporate all the young ones coming through and learn from the best like John and Bjorn, having rivals become teammates. The first three editions have been wonderful.”
Earlier in the week, Federer assured his fans that he’s recovering well and wants to get back on court in 2022 as soon as possible.
