Dominic Thiem, the twenty-seven year old Austrian, has won 17 ATP titles on tour so far. He remains the only one in the ‘new-gen’ of tennis players to have won a Grand Slam, the US Open in 2020. Thiem has not started the clay court season well, after having missed half of it while recovering from injury and exhaustion, but remains hopeful of a good show at the French Open 2021.
Roger Federer gets the vote of confidence from Dominic Thiem
Dominic Thiem has always been a fan of Roger Federer’s play which he says is much more aesthetic and elegant than his own. When asked about Federer’s future in the sport, Thiem gave his full vote of confidence to the Swiss Maestro. Thiem has said that Roger Federer is still playing because he still feels that he can go deep in every tournament and win it.
Dominic Thiem says, “I can’t wait to see Federer in Paris. I love the way he plays. If he is 100% fit, he can go deep in every tournament. Roger plays to win big titles, otherwise he would not be competing.“
Can Roger Federer really win the French Open?
Roger Federer is the most loved tennis player in the world, and no matter his results on the court, he continues to be adored by millions off it. Recently, post the crushing exit from the clay courts at Geneva, a disappointed Roger Federer had claimed that he has no chance of winning the French Open.
While Federer might have overreacted to a certain degree, this French Open is going to be one of the most open ones in its recent history and that is completely down to the fact that Rafael Nadal is finally showing signs of slowing down on clay.
Boris Becker the former German Tennis Star is one of those who has cast his doubts over Nadal’s form this season. He has said that certainly Nadal is not as strong as he was last year, and has picked Alexander Zverev as his favourite. The French open 2021 main draw will start from the 30th of May and promises to be the toughest test for Nadal in decades.
