20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer might be out of action as far as playing competitive tennis goes. However, he is still very much active with his off-court activities.

The Swiss maestro who announced to the world last month that he will be taking an indefinite break from the game, has successfully undergone a third knee surgery as per the latest reports.

Although his return date to tennis remains uncertain, his contributions to the society, especially in helping the under privileged children has not taken a back seat.

Recently, the 40-year-old Federer took to twitter to declare that his foundation- The Roger Federer Foundation has successfully conducted a 10 year programme in the south-east African country of Malawi.

“We successfully conducted a 10yr programme with Malawi. 154’000 children got access to quality ECD svcs by providing a prospering environment+our co-donors CreditSuisse, Re&Act Roche, Starbucks Fdn for their support,” the Swiss player tweeted.

“The overall aim is to improve lives and wellbeing 150,000 aged between three and six years in the 10 districts by promoting access to quality and sustainable early childhood development in Malawi,” the release stated.

It is well known that Federer’s mother hails from South Africa and the former World No.1 has often been making a massive difference towards the rainbow nation. Furthermore, Federer has also turned his focus towards Malawi, which continues to remain one of the poorest countries in the world. While the conditions have slightly got better in the region, the weak living standards are also reflected in the nation’s GDP.

Health and nutrition to get better

Along with early childhood development services, the Roger Federer Foundation also had the objective of health and nutrition condition of the children.

The programme also focused on increasing the capacity and motivation of the care givers. The RF programme also wanted to encourage the national government to invest more resources in early childhood development.
