Roger Federer French Open 2021 campaign started with a win. He defeated the Uzbek, Denis Istomin in straight sets on Monday. The Swiss won the first round encounter by a score line of 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 and dominated the match right from the onset. He will now face the Croatian, Marin Cilic in the second round encounter.

Roger Federer stated that Dan Evans’ win over Novak Djokovic in the third round of Monte Carlo Masters gave him a lot of confidence. A few months ago, Federer had defeated Evans in the second round of Qatar Open 2021.

“Seeing Evans beat Djokovic in Monaco gave me a bit of motivation, because I beat him in Doha. Obviously, it doesn’t mean that I would beat Nole, maybe he would beat me in straight sets, but it did make me see that I’m not that far from everyone,” said Federer.

Roger Federer stated that he hopes to play the Tokyo Olympics this year, which will be his final shot at an Olympic Singles Gold Medal. However, the Swiss expressed caution and stated that he will consider the situation before making a decision.

“My hope and dream is that I can play it. But it needs to make sense for me, my team, my family, my country. I’m still waiting to see how things are going to develop the next couple of weeks and month,” said Federer.

Roger Federer was delighted with his first round performance on Monday, and felt in good touch. “Clearly I had a good start, and I was able to serve. In the first set, I served excellent. I had the option to play the drop shot because he was playing far back, so I had multiple ways to win a point, which I didn’t in Geneva,” said Federer.
