‘Mazie Grille,’ Roger Federer responds to Barilla on his 40th birthday once again in misspelled Italian

Swiss maestro Roger Federer is one of the most celebrated and loved athletes across the globe and needless to say, floods of wishes poured on social media, wishing the 20-time grand slam champion, a happy 40th birthday.

One such touching message was from Italian pasta outlet, Barilla. The pasta makers took to twitter and wished Federer on his 40th. They also encouraged the fans to show some innovation in wishing Federer so that they could compile something special for the birthday boy.

“Happy birthday King @rogerfederer This year we want to show you some extra love… and it involves thousands of love messages! #RF fans worldwide, this is your chance: comment with your wishes and use the hashtag #RF40Love! We will make something special with them,” the tweet read.

Federer responded to the tweet in a cheeky manner, where he misspelled ‘Thank You very much’ in Italian. “Mazie Grille @Barilla,” Federer replied. Grazie Mille in Italian means Thank You Very Much, which Federer misspelled Mazie Grille. The context for the same dates back to 2019, at the Rome Masters, where Federer pulled out of the tournament and accidently wrote Mazie Grille instead of Grazie Mille. What followed was a sea of memes, mocking Federer in a fun way over his flawed Italian.

Roger Federer was scheduled to begin his North American hard court swing at Toronto, but as a precautionary measure towards his knee injury, he decided to pull out of both Toronto and Cincinnati Masters. Federer is now expected to be back at the US Open, gunning for his elusive 21st major. If he does that, he will march ahead of both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, once again reclaiming the lead.
