Roger Federer is set to play at the upcoming Geneva Open 2021 in his homeland in Switzerland and will be back on the tour after nearly 2 months.
The Swiss Maestro has been absent on the tour for a long time now due to his knee surgery. After a busy 2019 season, Federer was able to participate in just the 2020 Australian Open where he lost in the semi-finals to old foe Novak Djokovic. Apart from his old knee injury, he sustained another groin injury during his run in Melbourne.
2020 became the second year in Federer’s career where he did not win a title after winning his first ever career title. The Pandemic and rehab from his knee injuries forced him out of the entire season. Federer made his mini comeback at the Qatar Open 2021 but made it till the quarter-finals only disappointing fans who wanted to see Roger lift another trophy in his illustrious career.
Talking with UNIQLO ahead of the commencement of the Geneva Open 2021, Roger Federer said, “I really can’t wait any longer to play matches again.”

Roger Federer played at the Qatar Open stepped on the court in nearly 15-months when he played at the Qatar Open 2021. His appearance on the tour made fans excited but Federer was again on the side lines and has missed nearly 2-months of action since then.
Speaking on his recovery, Federer said, “The recovery from knee surgeries was slow, but now I am feeling much better.”
While many expected Federer to return early for the Clay season, he sat out almost the entire season and for his preparation for the upcoming 2021 French Open, he decided to play in his homeland. Geneva’s dates clash with the one’s at the ATP 250 in Lyon and many players are expected to play there given the ongoing restrictions for the Pandemic.
Roger however has decided to skip Lyon and play in Geneva which earned him praise from the tournament director at the Geneva Open, Thierry Grin. “Federer is a real patriot, he would have never played in Lyon.”
The Geneva Open 2021 will be held from 16th May, 2021 to 22nd May, 2021, with the draws set to be announced on 14th May, 2021.
