With the tournament around the corner, Rafael Nadal, the defending champion, made a startling declaration. The 14-time French Open champion announced his withdrawal from the tournament on Thursday. The Spaniard revealed the shocking news at a press conference. After missing the major clay surface tours, the 36-year-old was expected to mark his comeback in Paris. Due to ongoing injury issues, the Spanish athlete indicated that he is focused on his recovery and hinted at a return in 2024.
With Nadal’s withdrawal, the men’s singles tournament will be a fascinating one to witness. Novak Djokovic will be entering the tournament as the World No.1 in the men’s singles category. Carlos Alcaraz, the World No. 2, is one of the favorites to triumph in Paris, followed by potential contenders like Holger Rune, Daniil Medvedev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
