Andrey Rublev vs Jordan Thompson: Preview

Russian fourth seed, Andrey Rublev won his first match on grass this season after beating doubles partner and countryman Karen Khachanova in straight sets 6-3,7-6(5) on Tuesday. Rublev was coming off a heartbreaking first round loss to Jan-Lennard Struff at the French Open and his first round win at Halle should give him a lot of confidence going forward.
His game is well suited to grass as he likes hitting the ball hard with less top spin. He did exactly the same against Khachanov, an opponent he knows so well.
As for Jordan Thompson, his game is better suited to grass. He played at Stuttgart on grass before coming to Halle. He reached the Round of 16 of the Mercedes Cup before losing to countryman Alex de Minaur. In the first round at Halle. he got the better of Guido Pella in straight sets 6-2,7-6(4). Just like Rublev, he too loves going big on the forehand and has a solid serve too.

Andrey Rublev vs Jordan Thompson: Prediction

Rublev will go in as the favorite to win the match both on paper and on court. He is one of the strongest contenders to make it to the final in Halle this week and will look to dominate Thompson. His forehand will again be the key but he will be wary of the Australian’s serve. Expect an easy outing for the Russian.
Prediction: Rublev to win in straight sets.
