Casper Ruud continues his fine form on Clay as he reaches his 2nd final of the season defeating Roberto Carballes Baena 6-1, 6-4 in the semi-finals of the ATP Bastad 2021. The semi-final he played was his 5th semi-final appearance on Clay in 6 tournaments with only the French Open 2021 being the tournament where he failed to reach the last-4.
Ruud received a bye in the first round due to the virtue of his seed while his quarter-final opponent Henri Laakonsen retired due to injury. Ruud has played only 2 matches this week winning both of them in straight-sets. It will be a special occasion for Casper as his father, Christian, also made it to the finals in the 1995 Bastad Open where he finished as the runner-up.
Federico Coria reaches his 4th consecutive Clay finals of the season as he defeats Yannick Hanfmann in the semi-finals of the ATP Bastad 2021. Coria came into the tournament on the back of 3 consecutive finals in Challenger tournaments and has used his form exceptionally well as he inches closer to his maiden ATP title.
Similar to Ruud, it will be a special occasion for Federico as well as he reaches his first ATP final 20 years after his elder brother Guillermo reached the finals of the 2001 Chile Open where he registered his first ever ATP title as well. Federico will look for inspiration from his brother who was also his initial coach.
