“Rules Are Rules”: Scott Morrison issues clarification on Novak Djokovic’s VISA cancellation
Scott Morrison and Novak Djokovic
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has attracted a lot of criticism lately from the Australian public. The media and general public lashed out at him and Tennis Australia for allowing him to participate in the Australian Open even when he is not vaccinated.
However, the tables have turned yet again. Novak’s VISA has been canceled by the authorities at Melbourne Airport. According to the reports, the Serbian tennis star should leave Australia today itself. As soon as the news gained public attention, a lot of people in Serbia started expressing their disapproval.
“Mr. Djokovic’s visa has been canceled”: Australian PM Scott Morrison
After waiting for hours at the airport and being questioned by the airport authorities Novak Djokovic was rejected by the airport authorities. Djokovic wasn’t able to provide the required documents to the authorities and he will be sent back home.
Issuing a clarification on the subject, Australian PM Scott Morrison claimed that rules are for everyone and no one can bypass them, even if the person in question is one of the biggest tennis stars in the world. “Mr Djokovic’s visa has been canceled. Rules are rules, especially when it comes to our borders,” the Australian PM claimed.
“No one is above these rules. Our strong border policies have been critical to Australia having one of the lowest death rates in the world from COVID, we are continuing to be vigilant,” he added. This whole fiasco has gained a lot of attention and although fans might express their disapproval with the way the Australian govt has handled the issue, they had no other option as the locals would have lashed out furiously at the authorities if Novak would have easily gotten the approval to play in the first Grand Slam of the season.
