“She is a player who rarely disappoints,” Marc Rosset heaps praise on World No. 1 Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek
It has been a terrific season for the current World No. 1 Iga Swiatek as she recently won the Miami Open and completed the Sunshine Double. Swiatek is now keen to replicate that form into the claycourt season, which apparently is her favourite season.
The young Polish started her WTA tour this year with a journey to the finals at the Adelaide International. There she was defeated by Ashleigh Barty in the finals. She carried that form to the Australian Open and played some splendid tennis en route to the last four. However, she was beaten by an in form Danielle Collins.
Swiatek had an off outing in Dubai but then she decided to compensate for it with a hattrick of titles. She won the title in Doha beating Anette Kontaveit in the finals, followed by another title at the Indian Wells, as she went past Greece’s Mari Sakkari. Lastly, she won the Miami Open to complete the Sunshine Double beating Naomi Osaka in the finals.
The Polish youngster was recently crowned World no.1 after Ashleigh Barty‘s shock retirement. Swiatek needed a second round win at the Miami Open and therefore she was crowned with the WTA title and the trophy. The 20-yar-old has taken a break since winning the Miami Open but she will return to action for Poland at the Billie Jean King Cup as they face Romania in the qualifiers.
“It’s quite monstrous, what she does,” Marc Rosset opens up on Iga Swiatek’s rise to World No.1

Recently in an interview with RTS, former Olympics Champion Marc Rosset shared how Swiatek has risen through the rank very quickly in the women’s circuit. Rosset revealed that he had his beliefs that the Polish youngster would become World No.1 soon even if Barty has not retired. He heaped praise on the youngster for his exceptional consistency.
“It’s quite monstrous, what she does. I like what she does, what she presents. I really liked her Roland-Garros 2020, which she had also won. She is a player who rarely disappoints. I think she would have quickly become world No. 1, even without the retirement of Ashleigh Barty. Of course, the Pole still has things to improve in her game, but I hope now that she can settle permanently at the top. Women’s tennis needs a locomotive. Swiatek maybe this one,” Rosset explained.
Swiatek will lead the Polish tennis team at the qualifiers of the BJK Cup as they take on Romania in the qualifiers. Poland will be hosting the qualifiers and with Iga’s rising popularity, the stadium will be absolutely full to watch the former French Open champion take the court for the first time after she was crowned as the new World No.1.
After this weekend’s qualifiers at the Billie Jean King Cup, Iga Swiatek will return to the WTA tour by featuring at the Stuttgart Open. It will be her first claycourt tournament this season as he looks to prepare for the upcoming Roland Garros.
