Ashleigh Barty, top seed at Australian Open 2022 stormed into the finals of Australian Open 2022, as she stormed past Madison Keys in the semifinals. The Australian has produced such level of dominance that she is yet to drop a set so far in Melbourne.
Currently, Ash Barty is just one win away from scripting history and claiming her third Grandslam title. There has been a huge shift in the world number one’s game play, as she makes way few unforced errors, and even makes her defense seem like offense.
Swede tennis legend, Mats Wilander believes that Ashleigh Barty really likes to dominate her opponents, something which she is doing very well at Australian Open 2022. Wilander believes that the world number one is really using the slice to her advantage, and leaving her opponents entirely clueless.
“She is really dominating. The confidence boost of having opponents who have no idea how to deal with that slice must be so comforting. Obviously she’s got the big serve and the big forehand, but that’s the biggest difference from now compared to when she lost to Sofia Kenin [in the 2020 semi-final],” said Wilander.
Ash Barty using a brilliant combination to dominate opponents: Tim Henman

Fellow Eurosport expert and former tennis player, Tim Henman also echoed the sentiments of Mats Wilander and believes Ashleigh Barty is using a brilliant combination to dominate opponents.
Tim Henman believes that Barty uses a slice, and then backs it up with a forehand that catches her opponents off-guard. The Briton believes that not many players practice against slices, which is the reason why they are left clueless.
“I think because it’s so defensive sometimes it’s easy to think a slice is a defensive shot but she’s making it very offensive. Some of the other players don’t get to see that so often or practice against it. That’s why I think it’s having such a big impact. Then she’s backing it up with huge forehands as well. The combination is just working brilliantly,” Henman said.
After defeating an American in the semifinals, Ash Barty faces another American in the finals. Barty faces Danielle Collins in the finals, who decimated Iga Swiatek in straight sets on Thursday.
