Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek is currently playing in the WTA Qatar Open 2022 where she knocked out Maria Sakkari in the semifinals with the score of and saved herself a place in the finals. In the finals, the player will take on Anett Kontaveit who recently won the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy 2022 by defeating Maria Sakkari in the finals.
Iga has not claimed a single title to her name since the start of this season. Ahead of the Qatar open 2022, she tried her luck at the WTA Dubai Tennis Championships, Australian Open and WTA Adelaide international tournaments.
Iga Swiatek speaks on Anita
Recently, Iga spoke on her recent semifinals match at the WTA Qatar Open 2022 with Maria Sakkari. After the win Iga expressed her joy of not just winning the match but also seeing Anita Wlodarczyk watching her at the Doha. This news was posted on the official Twitter handle of the WTA Insider.
“She’s a role model for all the athletes in Poland. She’s a three-time gold medallist. She’s the most consistent athlete we have in our country, and I think meeting her is going to inspire me,” Iga said in the interview.
Anita Wlodarczyk is a Polish hammer thrower. She won the Olympics in 2012, 2016 and 2020 also she is the first woman in history to throw the hammer over 80 m. She currently holds the women’s world record of 82.98 m. She is considered the greatest women’s hammer thrower of all time. She was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta in 2009.
