Just months after winning her third Grand Slam at the 2022 Australian Open, Ash Barty has announced a shock retirement from professional tennis aged 25. Needless to say, the tennis world was stunned as Barty was at the peak of her game and was still in the prime of her career.
Tributes poured in for the Aussie after she posted an emotional video on her social media announcing her early retirement. Current players and former greats of tennis all hailed Barty for the incredible success she had and wished her for the road ahead.

Ashleigh Barty, who was the world number one and reigning Wimbledon and Australian Open champion, called time on her career aged just 25 on Wednesday, shocking the whole world with the unexpected announcement.
Emma Raducanu is just six years younger, but is at the very infancy of her career, having only burst onto the scene last year. The former US Open champion recently spoke on the subject of Ashleigh Barty’s retirement, revealing that her retirement just went on to show how personal objectives and goals are for everyone after the Aussie retired at the peak of her powers.
“I think that Ash’s retirement just shows how personal everyone’s objectives and goals are. I feel like if I set out with a goal when I’m starting to play tennis, I achieve that, once I’m happy it kind of makes sense to finish on a high if you know what I mean. I feel like it is personal,” revealed Raducanu.
The Brit had earlier paid tribute to the now-former World No.1, congratulating her on all her achievements in the sport. Raducanu also hailed Barty for adding variety to the game, revealing that she took inspiration from the Aussie.
“I just want to wish Ash all the best because she had a great career. I think she achieved everything that she wanted to when she started playing the sport. I think she was a great player and she brought a lot of variety to the game. I really respected that. I took a lot of inspiration from her, just how she’s able to mix things up,” added Raducanu.
