Emma Raducanu not only stunned the tennis world, but amazed herself by winning the US Open 2021 title a week ago. Not only did she become the first player to win a Grand Slam by entering through the qualifiers, but the British girl also won the title without dropping a set.
Incredibly, Raducanu was only playing in her third Grand Slam, after she shot to fame at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Post her stellar win, the 18-year-old has become the heartthrob of the tennis fraternity.
From signing new endorsement deals with multiple, unicorn companies to attending marquee, public events, the newly crowned US Open champion is arguably enjoying the best time of her life.
Post her success in New York, Canadian-born Raducanu has also been receiving plenty of heart-warming messages across platforms. From former and current players to celebrities, across walk of life have wished the young prodigy.
Two-time Grand Slam champion and former World No.1 Simona Halep too passed on her greetings to the young champion. I got a message from Simona Halep and it meant a lot to receive a note from her. She has achieved many things. Yeah, she is one of my role models that I have watched growing up. I love the way she plays and her athleticism,” the Brit told CGTN Sports, on how she has been inspired by the Romanian star.
Besides Halep, Raducanu also spoke about how she also idolised another, two-time Major champion in Li Na. “And Li Na is also one of my idols. I have always said that from a young age. I wanted to play like Li Na,” Raducanu explained.
Finance Management on Parents
Upon winning the US Open, Raducanu also earned a whopping prize money of $3.4million. When quizzed by the media on how she plans to handle the enormous amount of money, the 18-year-old had little hesitation in stating that she will leave the finance part to her parents.
“I will just leave that to my parents. They can take that for me. I haven’t gone shopping yet,” Emma said. Interestingly, Raducanu’s parents are both from the finance background.
