Simona Halep SHOCKS fans with HEARTBREAKING announcement ahead of Miami Open 2022

Simona Halep
Simona Halep has pulled out of the 2022 Miami Open with a thigh injury. The Romanian is also set to miss out on the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup ties and the Charleston Open, thus hampering her preparations for the clay-court swing as well.
This comes as a huge setback for the former World No.1 after having been on the sidelines for the better half of 2021 with a calf injury. Halep dropped out of the top-10 rankings for the first time since 2013 as a result. But she has been on a resurgent run this season with already a title triumph to her name this year. Her last match was against Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals of the Indian Wells last week, which she lost in straight sets. Halep took an injury time out during the second set and this injury might have flared up during her time in Miami.
‘Motivated to be ready for the clay-court season’: Simona Halep

Halep shared the news of her injury on her official Twitter handle. The Romanian said she felt a sharp pain while she was gearing up for her second-round clash against Daria Saville and the tests showed a tear, which will keep her on the sidelines for at least 3 weeks.
“Hi guys, while I was practicing in Miami yesterday I felt a sharp pain in my left leg. I had been struggling with the thigh since my semifinal in Indian Wells and hoped it would improve, but I went for an MRI last night and unfortunately, it showed a tear. My body needs time to heal and as a result, I will be out of competition for three weeks. This means I have had to make the super-tough decision to pull out of Miami, Charleston, and Fed Cup.“
Despite the setback, Halep is hoping to be ready for the claycourt swing. With the French Open set to begin on 22nd May, the 2018 Roland Garros champion faces a race against time to recover ahead of it.
“While it feels like really disappointing news to share, I am keeping the confidence from my great start to the year and am motivated to do everything to be ready for the clay-court season. Thanks for your continued support through the highs and lows, Simo,” she concluded.
