Sofia Kenin makes a winning return at the Wimbledon 2021 as she defeats Xin Yu Wang 6-4, 6-2 to claim her 3rd win at the All-England Club. Kenin won the match in just 63 minutes as she gave no chance to her opponent to stage a comeback after breaking her in the 1st set.

Kenin reaches the 2nd round for the 3rd consecutive time and will be hoping to go a step further ahead which she failed to do so in her past 2 appearances in the 2nd round, bowing out from the 2nd round.

Kenin who did not play in any Grass tournament prior to the Wimbledon 2021, made a good start to her campaign at the Championships winning in straight-sets to settle her nerves which she certainly felt while taking the court.

Everyone is playing really well here and anything can happen at any given point. I am taking it one match at a time, I’m not gonna look ahead. I’m happy that I won today it’s a good start to the tournament and I hope I can improve in the coming matches.” said Sofia about her planning for the tournament as she will be seen as a title contender.

Movement is definitely a big key for me. My movement wasn’t the best today, I served well, it saved me in some crucial moments. also the returns. There are little stuff I have to improve. overall quite happy, first match on grass since I didn’t play any previous grass tournaments. Playing the first match on grass that too at Wimbledon, I had some nerves but I managed it.” added Sofia.

Speaking about fellow American Sloane Stephens who defeated Petra Kvitova in straight-sets on the Centre Court, “Me and Sloane are good friends i am happy for her, its a good win for both of us. I hope we both can do well here.” said Sofia as she concluded her post conference.
