World No. 12 Denis Shapovalov had a good outing at the 2022 Australian Open where the 22-year old reached the quarter-finals of the Slam, only to lose to the eventual champion Rafael Nadal. Denis had lost the first two sets against Nadal but managed to take the game into the 5th set where the Spaniard ultimately shot down the Canadian youngster.

However, the Canadian then was disappointing at both the Qatar Open and the Rotterdam Open, exiting early at both the tournaments. The youngster has now been ousted out of the Dubai Tennis Championship in an absolute epic thriller with Jiri Vesely.

On being asked to name a player whom as a kid he used to feel afraid watching on how good they were, Shapovalov answered that it was Roger Federer. The Canadian revealed that he was awestruck by how easy the veteran made it look on-field and still does today. “I think Roger, he makes it look so easy even to this day. He makes it look like he’s having a coffee and having a good time,” said Shapovalov.

Moving on, when Shapovalov and Costa were talking about hockey, the latter asked if he sometimes wished that he was a hockey player instead of a tennis player. The youngster replied that he did, as he wanted to see how it felt like playing a team sport. However, he also admitted that there were both pros and cons to it.

“Sometimes I do. Being on a team, it’d be awesome to be in a team. Then sometimes I feel like doing it all alone. Sometimes if you are an unbelievable player you can win but if you’re not in a good team you’re gonna lose. There’s definitely plusses and minuses.” revealed the Canadian.

He then went on to reveal that he was a very lazy guy off the court. Despite looking full of energy and athleticism on the court, Shapovalov revealed that he is the opposite at home. “I’m a lazy guy. I leave it all on the court and as soon as I’m done there you’re not gonna get anything from me, trust me you can ask anyone who knows me I’m the laziest person. I’m like a sloth, I like to just sit around,” said the youngster.
