Stefanos Tsitsipas stormed into the finals of Lyon Open 2021, after defeating Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals on Saturday. The second seed had to do all the hard work against the Italian, as he had to come back from a set down to progress into the finals. The Greek won in three sets by a score line of 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.
It was a morale boosting victory for Stefanos Tsitsipas who came back from a set down to defeat the talented Italian. The second seed will now face the Briton, Cameron Norrie in the finals of Lyon Open 2021. Tsitsipas defeated Tommy Paul in straight sets in the second round, and also defeated the Japanese, Yoshihito Nishioka in straight sets in the quarterfinals.
Stefanos Tsitsipas reaches third final of the clay court season
Stefanos Tsitsipas has had quite a busy clay court season, as he reached his third finals of the clay court season. The Greek won the Monte Carlo Masters last month, and also reached the finals of Barcelona Open 2021, where he lost to Rafael Nadal in the finals.
Stefanos Tsitsipas has now secured his second successive victory over Lorenzo Musetti, and stated that the Italian was fighting for each and every point. “I had to stay calm,” Tsitsipas said on court. “It was difficult to be a set down and have to kind of refresh myself and come anew in the second set. He was still putting [in] a lot of work and making me work for every single point. It wasn’t easy,” he added.
Stefanos Tsitsipas also said that it was important for him to win a match like this, which would bolster his confidence ahead of the finals on Sunday. “It was important I had a match like this. It makes me stay humble and focus on some detailed things I can potentially improve and get better at on clay,” he added.
