Stephens comes into this contest at the back of a stunning performance in the first round against two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova. The American was clinical is dislodging the lanky Czech in straight sets. Although Stephens has blown hot and cold on the WTA tour, the win over Kvitova will give her the required impetus to progress ahead in the tournament. Interestingly, the win over Kvitova was the 28-year-old’s first match on grass this season, after missing out on warm-up tournaments in Berlin and Nottingham.
On the other hand, Ahn also beat an accomplished grass court player in Heather Watson in the opening round. The American comes into the second round after having come through the qualifiers. On the other hand, for Ahn to progress ahead, she must hope that her body remains fresh and perhaps, Stephens also experiences a horrendous day.
