“Stop the violence, stop the war” Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova RETALIATES against Russia, making a bold statement

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
World No. 15, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova‘s last tournament was the Australian Open, where she lost to Sorana Cîrstea ( 3-6, 6-2, 2-6 ) in the third round. Her match in the St. Petersburg Open got canceled. To make things worse, her country initiated a military attack on Ukraine, causing infrastructural destruction and mental and physical damage to many citizens.
On February 28, the Russian player took to Twitter to voice out her opinion regarding the matter. She was one among those who made a clear-cut statement against Putin’s decision.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova’s protest against war
“I’ve been playing since I was a kid. I have represented Russia all my life. This is my home and my country. But now I am in complete fear, as are my friends and family. But I am not afraid to clearly state my position. I am against war and violence,” she wrote.
She blames those in power for the Russian-Ukraine war. “Personal ambitions or political motives cannot justify violence. This takes away the future not only from us but also from our children. I am confused and do not know how to help in this situation,” she wrote. This statement is very powerful as she is directly making a comment that the President of Russia made a glaring mistake in his decision to attack Ukraine for the sake of political matters.
She further added, “I’m just an athlete who plays tennis. I am not a politician, not a public figure, I have no experience in this. I can only publicly disagree with these decisions taken and openly talk about it.” Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova takes out her frustration for the fact that she can’t do anything other than protest through social media or talk about it in public.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova’s future from here on out

Even though every player from Russia is truly showing his/her disdain for the war waged by their country on Ukraine, they are not treated well by the rest of the world. The International Tennis Federation ( ITF ) proposed to deny permission to all Russian sports players from competing in any individual or team event. They will hence not be able to compete, making it quite hard for players like Pavlyuchenkova and Daniil Medvedev to keep their rankings in check without losing points.
