BREAKING: Sumit Nagal to compete in singles at Tokyo 2020
Sumit Nagal
India’s star tennis player, Sumit Nagal is all set to compete at the Tokyo Olympics in the singles draw. Yuki Bhambri on basis of his 127 protected ranking was set to represent India at tokyo but unfortunately he was injured. Hence, Nagal replaces him in the main draw.
Nagal hasn’t been in great form recently and will want to win a few matches and inch closer to a rare medal from tennis. Before Nagal, only Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina made the cut and were set to compete in the women’s doubles. With Nagal’s inclusion, the All India Tennis Association(AITA) will also try their best to get a slot for Mirza and Nagal in the mixed doubles.
Earlier, Rohan Bopanna couldn’t make the cut and hence the dream pairing of Mirza/Bopanna will not be seen in Tokyo. The Indian pair reached the semifinals at Rio, securing 4th spot.
