Tenerife Ladies Open 2021: Women’s Singles Draw Preview and Prediction

The Tenerife Ladies Open 2021 will be making its debut on the WTA Tour as the WTA-250 tournament is set to begin from 18th October on the island of Tenerife in Spain. It will be the final tournament in Spain for the season and the only one to be played on hardcourts as the other tournament is the WTA-1000 Madrid Open played on Claycourts.

First Quarter

Top-seeded Elina Svitolina will begin her campaign against Columbian Maria Serrano and looks certain to play the winner of Lucrezia Stefanini and Mayar Sherif in the 2nd round. 7th seeded Clara Tauson, the other seed in the quarter, will be up against Heather Watson and is most likely to play against the winner of Saisai Zheng and local girl Rebeka Masarova.

1st Quarterfinal Prediction: Elina Svitolina vs Clara Tauson

Second Quarter

4th seeded Camila Giorgi will start against a qualifier who is yet to be confirmed and given her good form should play the winner of Danka Kovinic and Alison Van Uytvanck. Viktorija Golubic is another seed in the quarter and the 5th seeded Swiss will start against Arantxa Rus and will be the favourite for the tie. Greet Minnen will be up against a qualifier and should meet Golubic in Round 2.

Third Quarter

3rd seeded Sara Sorribes Tormo will kickstart her campaign against Varvara Gracheva and looks like the one heading to round 2 to face Ann Li who remains favourite for her first-round match against Spaniard Nuria Diaz. Marta Kostyuk will start against Irina Begu and looks the one heading to round 2 to meet 8th seeded Alison Riske who awaits her opponent from the qualifying round.

3rd Quarterfinal Prediction: Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Alison Riske

Fourth Quarter

2nd seeded Tamara Zidansek will start against Rebbeca Peterson in round 1 and is most likely to meet Anna Schmiedlova in round 2 who will start against a qualifier. Alize Cornet and 6th seeded Shuai Zhang will both be the favourites for their respective 1st round ties given that they begin against a qualifier so the odds are with them.

4th Quarterfinal Prediction: Tamara Zidansek vs Shuai Zhang

Semifinals

Elina Svitolina and Camila Giorgi look the favourites to enter the semis and lock horns against each other in their 4th career meeting and second of the season. Svitolina currently leads 2-1 and given their recent form, it seems the Ukrainian will make it 3-1 after they play out their semi-final tie.

In the second semi-final, Tamara Zidansek and Sara Sorribes Tormo could clash in their 2nd career meeting and first on hardcourts. While Tamara currently leads the head-to-head by 1-0, Sara stands a great chance to level the scores given her better record on hardcourts as compared to Tamara and the crowd support will surely help her get her win over the Slovenian.

Final

Elina and Sara have not met on the tour so far and with an all-at-stakes match, both players will definitely bring their best game on the court to become the inaugural champion of the tournament. However, looking at their numbers for the season and their form lately, it seems Svitolina will be the one who should get her hands on the trophy and become the first-ever champion in Tenerife.
